Terminology Used by Orwinshove
This glossary explains the specific terms used across the Orwinshove platform and website. It is intended to help users understand the language of the service before or during their engagement with it.
Understanding the Language of the Platform
Information-organisation services use precise language to describe their operations. Some terms used by Orwinshove have specific meanings within the context of the platform that may differ from their everyday use. The definitions below reflect how these terms are understood within the Orwinshove service.
- Record
- A discrete unit of information submitted to or held within the Orwinshove service. A record may consist of text, structured data, or other content depending on the format in which it was submitted. Each record is assigned a unique reference identifier on intake.
- Classification
- The process of examining a record and assigning it to an appropriate category within the platform's organisational structure. Classification is carried out either by the system's automated logic or by the support team during manual review, depending on the clarity of the incoming record.
- Category
- A defined grouping within the platform's structure to which records are assigned. Categories are organised by content type, subject matter, and intended audience. A record belongs to one primary category at any given time, though it may carry multiple labels.
- Label
- A short descriptive term applied to a record to provide additional context beyond its category assignment. Labels allow users to navigate across related records that belong to different categories. A record may carry more than one label.
- Sequence
- The ordered arrangement of records within a category. The default sequence is chronological, though sequencing may also reflect subject priority or thematic grouping depending on the category configuration. Sequence management ensures that navigation through a category is logical and predictable.
- Review Interface
- The user-facing layer through which classified and sequenced records are presented for examination. The review interface allows users to access individual records, navigate between adjacent records in a sequence, and view classification notes. It is the primary point of interaction between a user and the organised collection.
- Intake
- The initial stage of the record lifecycle, during which a submitted item is received, logged with a timestamp, and assigned a reference identifier. Intake precedes classification. A record in the intake stage has not yet been placed in a category.
- Enquiry
- A submission made by a user through the Enquire page to ask a question, request access to the service, or initiate an amendment to an existing record. Enquiries are handled by the support team and are assigned their own reference identifiers for tracking purposes.
- Access Request
- A specific type of enquiry in which a user asks to be granted access to the Orwinshove platform. An access request is reviewed by the support team before access is confirmed. Submitting an access request does not automatically result in access being granted.
- Manual Review
- The process by which a member of the support team examines a record that could not be classified automatically, or a flagged enquiry that requires human assessment. Records held for manual review remain in a holding state until a classification decision has been made.
- Reference Identifier
- A unique alphanumeric code assigned to each record or enquiry at the point of intake. Reference identifiers are used to trace items through the system and should be quoted in any follow-up communication with the support team.
- Support Team
- The Orwinshove staff responsible for reviewing enquiries, handling access requests, performing manual classification reviews, and responding to user questions. The support team can be reached at [email protected] or through the Enquire page.
- Reclassification
- The process of moving a record from one category to another, or adjusting its labels, after its initial classification. Reclassification requests are submitted through the enquiry channel and assessed by the support team. Not all reclassification requests will result in a change.
